Even though we are a few days removed from Thanksgiving, I have been prompted to spend some serious time thinking about the many things that I am thankful for. That and I accidentally just checked my Facebook and was 'inspired' by learning what roughly 20 other people were thankful for over the past month. One of my favorites today was a post about being grateful to be able to bribe a child with chocolate. If that's all it takes, I'm going to be a stellar parent.
While I apparently missed out on the trend of telling Facebook what I am thankful for, I figured that I could at least make up for it here. The Facebook rules seem relatively simple: 27 days in November up until Thanksgiving equals 27 things to be thankful for.
While I'm quite positive that I have more than 27 things to be thankful for, coming up with that many within a few minutes (or however long it takes me to finish this glass of wine) has proven to be harder than it sounds. However, since I was clearly not thankful for a single thing over the entire month of November, I have decided to put together a little remix to redeem myself. In honor of day number two in December, I present you with my heartfelt thanks in two grammatically perfect paragraphs.
I am thankful... that I am still standing after a year and a half in graduate school, that despite the fact that I am mostly a giant handful, I still have many equally-handfullish yet amazing friends, that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, that my hockey teams put up with my lack of skill and loud personality, that there are bottles of wine priced under $10, that I have friends that will gladly join me to drink those bottles of wine, for patios, rummy, the bartenders at the Bacchus, barbecue chicken wings, Fireball, and ibuprofen (in that order), that my ex-boyfriends are my ex-boyfriends, that my dad still doesn't know about my appearance(s) in the women's hockey calendar, that you are still reading this, that Shaun T still tells me to not give up even after watching me abort an Insanity workout 5 minutes in more times than I've actually finished one, that I was actually successful in turning beer into a serious thesis topic, that, because of my thesis, I can trick my friends into talking about economics with me, that I have still not managed to burn a house down with my sincere attempts at cooking, for my softball team that has put up with me for eight years and provided me with memories, invaluable life advice, and green argyle socks, that I have a close group of economics friends who actually think that my jokes are funny, and that I have a fabulous friend and partner-in-crime willing to fight hard with me to make the world a better place by bringing the fanny pack back into style.
And, in the holiday spirit of giving thanks for family-related things... I am thankful that my family managed to make it through another Thanksgiving dinner without killing one another. Oh, and happy birthday to my sister in five minutes. Tomorrow, we should all be thankful for her.
